Mom, Dad and Steph Visit Nauvoo

My most memorable times were being in the temple together.  Endowment and sealing on my parent’s anniversary.  Baptizing my sister Stephanie as my parents served as witnesses and Diane at the baptistry desk.

They flew to Des Moines, Iowa after a brief layover in Denver, Colorado on Southwest Airlines.  Dad brought an oxygen concentrator, but didn't even need it the entire time he was here.  The elevation at the flats of Nauvoo is just over 500 feet above sea level.  Mom and Dad brought along their CPAPs and a two small suit cases.  Diane and I drove to the Des Moines Internationl Airport, which is about 3.5 hours from Nauvoo, to pick them up.  They flew in on a Thursday and flew back out on a Tuesday.

Mom and dad wouldn't sleep on our bed, but insisted on taking the hide-a-bed.  Stephanie slept on a blow up mattress.  It was tight quarters for sleeping but is was fun to be together.

Most evenings were capped off by playing card games together:  Five Crowns, Rook, Ripple with SkipBo cards, Farkle and of course Mormon Bridge.

They attended the Nauvoo 3rd Ward with us for Sunday meetings.  When dad introduced himself in priesthood meeting, the EQP said, wow!  We don't often hear of a Senior Missionary Couple having a dad and mom come to visit them.  :)

It was so wonderful to have them come to visit.  Their continued testimony of the Savior throughout their lives has always been a great source of inspiration to me.

Here are pics of some of the sites we visited.

Dinner at Angelini's Resorante Italiano.  A large group next to us felt bad they were being a bit overbearing and so one of them bought our dinner.   It felt just a bit like being home, but we were grateful for their kindness.

We found a newly called missionary and cousin that uncle Paul had asked dad to check on while in Nauvoo.  This was at the Riser Boot Shop.  Sister Maples was also there and told the story of the lip synching "teamster skit" at Christmas.
